Jaguar Land Rover India to launch ten new products in the next year
Jaguar Land Rover announced yesterday it is planning ten new product actions in the coming 2018-19 financial year. The British car maker sold 4,609 cars in the country last year and grew by 83 percent. The company puts the achievement down to a sustained product launch offensive in the last 12 months, along with a steadily expanding retailer footprint and enhanced service and brand experience programs for consumers. Given this latest announcement, we suspect the company will be carrying on with this strategy. While JLR gave no details of what these new cars might be, we've put down the ones we think are most likely to see a launch in India.
Jaguar F-Type SVR
The Jaguar F-Type SVR gets powered by the same supercharged 5.0-litre V8 that also drives the F-Type R. However, the new car, which we drove recently, has been worked on by JLR's Special Vehicle Operations and F-Type SVR's engine now makes a higher 567PS of power and 700Nm of torque compared to the F-Type R's 542PS and 680Nm. The engine comes mated to an 8-speed automatic gearbox and power gets sent to all wheels. The F-Type SVR can accelerate from 0-100kmph in 3.7 seconds. Other additions include a new titanium exhaust and extensive use of carbon fibre
Range Rover SVAutobiography
The SVAutobiography is the flagship of the Range Rover and was recently facelifted for international markets. Built on the RR's LWb variant, the SVAutobiography gets touches like two standalone recliner seats at the back, separated by a fixed centre console which extends the full length of the cabin, electronically deployable rear tables, and an integrated 10-inch touchscreen rear entertainment screens with 4G WiFi connectivity. A wine-cooler is also available in between the two backseats while the interior now gets the latest generation dual-touchscreen set up from the Velar. The Indian car is likely to get the 4.4L SDV8 diesel engine with 340PS and the supercharged 5.0-litre petrol V8 with 565PS.
Range Rover Sport SVR
The updated Range Rover Sport SVR will also make its way to India soon. The supercharged 5.0-litre petrol V8 now makes 590 PS of power and 700 Nm of torque. Other changes made specifically to this car by SVO include new front air inlets, optional exposed carbon fibre bonnet, stiffer suspension and increased use of lightweight materials to enhance performance, handling and agility. The overall effect of this is the 280 kmph top speed and a 0 to 100 kmph time of 4.5s.
Range Rover SVCoupe
The SVCoupe is a handbuilt, 3-door version of the Range Rover, limited to 999 units worldwide. The SVO built car's interior is also notable for the available contrasting colour schemes that allow the front seats to be done up in a different colour leather to the rear seats (a monotone upholstery scheme is also available). Othe features are similar to the one in the SVAutobiography but greater customisation is allowed. The car is also powered by the 5.0 supercharged V8 which produces 575PS in this spec.
The Jaguar I-Pace, which debuted earlier this month internationally, is the brand's first all-electric car. The crossover comes with a 90kWh battery pack which lets it put out 400PS and 696Nm while having a 480km range. It gets a bespoke aluminium platform and gets Jaguar's own battery technology, getting it from 0 to 100 kmph in 4.5s and to a top speed of 200 kmph. The crossover competes with the Tesla Model X but is priced from Rs 55 lakh (excluding taxes and duties).
The E-Pace is Jaguar's competitor to the likes of the Audi Q3 and BMW X1 and sits below the F-Pace and I-Pace in the brand's SUV line-up. The car sits on the Evoque's platform Internationally, the car is offered with JLR's 2.0 litre Ingenium line of 150PS, 180PS or 240PS turbo-charged diesel engines, and 250 or 300hp turbo petrols. Four-wheel drive is offered on all variants, but the 150hp diesel can be had with a manual gearbox and front-wheel drive. The 180hp is also available in a manual. The rest are 9-speed autos. We expect a 150PS, automatic diesel option to be the most popular in India.
Jaguar F-Pace SVR
The high-performance variant of the F-Pace, this car is powered by the supercharged 5.0-litre V8 under the bonnet that has 550PS and 680Nm of torque. Other changes by SVR include uprated spring and dampers, a new anti-roll bar, Â new lightweight forged alloy wheels, while larger, lightweight brakes, a new active exhaust system and the active differential from the F-Type. The car also comes with bigger brakes, fatter tires and a subtly-aggressive body kit for increased aerodynamic efficiency. The F-Pace SVR get from o to 100 kmph in 4.3s, hits 282 kmph and competes with the likes of the Porsche Macan Turbo and Mercedes-AMG GLC63.
The Range Rover and Range Rover Sport have been facelifted internationally, those will also make their way into the country. Given that JLR is saying that there will be 10 new product actions and not all new models, it can be expected that the company will also update its present line-up with new variants and powertrain options, along the lines of the recent addition of petrol engines to the XE and XF model lines.
