All-electric Hyundai Kona crossover could be priced between Rs 25-30 lakh in India

July 9 will be a big and important day for Hyundai as the car manufacturer launches its first-ever all-electric crossover, the Kona in India. We expect Hyundai to price this one in the Rs 25 - 30 lakh, ex-showroom bracket which will make it a unique offering in this price range. If Hyundai India confirms this price at the launch event tomorrow, the Hyundai Kona electric will rival the likes of the MG eZS electric that arrives in India by December 2019. The other SUVs/Crossovers that are available in this price range include Jeep Compass, Hyundai Tucson, Isuzu MU-X, Mahindra Alturas, Toyota Fortuner, Mitsubishi Pajero Sport, Volkswagen Tiguan, Honda CR-V and Ford Endeavour, all of which are powered by conventional powertrains.

The Hyundai Kona electric will be launched in India on July 09 2019, making it the first ever all-electric SUV in the country

While there is no confirmation on the route that Hyundai India will be taking to get the all-electric Kona in India, we believe it will be in the form of CKD (completely knocked down). These kits will be assembled at the company's plant in Chennai and will also help Hyundai to position the Kona aggressively against the above mentioned rivals. The CBU route will tend to make the Kona electric way more premium as the cost of battery, electric motor and the other related components are on the higher side.

The Hyundai Kona electric looks pretty conventional as Hyundai first created the Kona SUV powered by petrol and diesel engines, so thankfully, its electric version does not look quirky like several other electric cars in the world

Mentioning of powertrain, internationally the Kona gets two battery options - 39.2kWh and a 64kWh battery pack. The smaller battery pack can be fully charged in six hours whereas the larger battery pack charged fully in nine hours. Though a fast charger could bring the charge time down to one hour for 80 per cent of charge. The smaller battery pack provides a range of 300kms and puts out 134PS. With this power output, the Kona makes a 0-100 kmph dash in 9.3 seconds Whereas the larger battery pack has an output of 203PS and does a 0-100 run in 7.6 seconds.

The Hyundai Kona electric is on offer in two states of tune internationally - one is powered by a 39kWh battery pack while the other is more powerful and uses a 64kWh battery pack
